Sometimes you find something quirky and fun. This is one of those times. I was searching around the Pinnacle Entertainment Group’s forums for Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG materials. (More on that game later.) and I stumbled into a thread about a Scooby Doo adventure using the Savage Worlds rules. I followed the link to Dave Baymiler’s blog and read all about Savage Worlds Scooby Doo.
The Savage Worlds RPG system is not as detail-oriented as GURPS, Pathfinder or D&D. I have played a few sessions of Pirates of the Spanish Main and the system reminds me a bit of Storyteller. There are mechanics for combat and contested actions, but the rules try to stay out of the way of the story and the role play.
I think we’ve found our next Free RPG on-line game…
We started Gamemeisters with a plan to open a Friendly Local Game Store in Central Vermont. It was our hope that we could build a space to let gamers game. At this point we are taking a strategic pause in the FLGS plan.
Does that mean the company is done? No! It means that the company will change direction for the foreseeable future from a retail FLGS to a game design company. That means we are working on a game and will be posting more details soon.
We are still working on the location issue. A lot of the underlying business adminstrivia is finished. Once we settle on a location things will move much more quickly. It’s just finding the right place is hard. We want to do a good job so gamers will have a place to play that’s close to town, easy to park, and fun.
In honor of Free RPG Day, GameMeisters is going to start a two week long play-by-post Classic Traveller game in the forums. Head over to the forums, register, and play.
We aren’t open yet, but if we were you can bet GameMeisters would be your spot to celebrate Free RPG day. The closest stores that are participating are in Bennington and West Leb.
What is Free RPG Day? Here’s the quote from their site www.freerpgday.com
Free RPG Day is a day for you to go to your local participating retailer to play new games and get free stuff.
Every retailer has their own version of Free RPG Day, each running the games they want to run.
What they all have in common is free stuff donated to them by all your favorite publishers. It’s a day to play games celebrate the hobby and play games.
We have to miss this year, but keep an eye out June 15, 2014. We’ll have in store events. I might even dust off my Traveller set.
The polls are open in the forums (Click the Forums button in the menu bar). Go to the forums, register, and then vote for our first family feature and feature game. If you want to help pick our very first featured games headed on over and vote.
The winners will be the featured game and the family feature on opening day.
The setup continues. We have got our Forums, Facebook, Twitter, and this main page up and running. A few minor thematic things need tweaking, but for the most part the heavy lifting in the on-line space is done. Now we just need to finish the heavy lifting with the store site, financials, and get open…
We are just starting up. So the facebook, twitter, and web site are being built and tuned over the next few days. Don’t be surprised to see the site go off-line or to see things radically change.
